Liu Hong Wei was born in 1965 in Beijing. Raised in the 1970s, during the Cultural Revolution in China, he spent much of his childhood at home, unable to go outside or attend regular school. In this solitary environment, he created a fantasy world as a means of escape, and when he began to study art, he found an immediate kinship with the Surrealist Art movement, which also sought to embrace the world of dreams and fantasy. In 1988, after graduating from the Oil Painting Department at Hebei University, he began creating his signature style of painting with the motif of children. Since then, he has also been a professor at the Academy of Arts and Crafts of Hebei University in China.
Liu Hong Wei has exhibited internationally, and his oil paintings have been published in Chinese Oil Paintings, Jiangsu Art Journal, Art World, Art Archive, Oil Paintings, Chinese Art, Asian Art News and other publications. His artworks have been collected by corporations and private collectors in USA, United Kingdom, France, Australia, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong.
