Biography

Recipient of the Worldʼs Outstanding Chinese Designer award in 2015, Chi Wing Loʼs works encompass the fields of architecture, sculpture, interior, furniture and object design. His prolific output has long been recognised, both in and beyond the eminent circle of contemporary Italian design, for its evocativeness in thought, gracefulness in form and meticulousness in every detail.

Founder of DIMENSIONE CHI WING LO, a brand of furniture designed and made in Italy under his close direction, Lo has been actively pursuing design in Italy for almost three decades. Lo was among the Italian delegates to transmit the spirit of Italian design in Russia. His aspiration for timelessness has brought his designs to international attention and many of his earlier works continue to be much sought after today.

Loʼs solo art and design exhibitions include: ESSENCE CHI WING LO at the China Design Museum in 2019, AURA at the Serindia Gallery in Bangkok in 2018, SYNTHESIS - The Silence of His World at the Damei Art Center in Beijing in 2017, SCHOLARLY IMPLEMENTS at the Xiling Seal Art Society Gallery in Hangzhou in 2016, VISION OF A CIVILIZATION and JIANLONG 1055 at the Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery in Hong Kong in 2013 and 2015, TIMELESS DOMAIN at the Triennale Museum in Milan in 2014, among others. His works are favoured by international patrons and prominent collectors.

In 2007, Lo was invited by the Hong Kong Design Centre to contribute a special design, STRINGLESS PLEASURE, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Hong Kongʻs unification with China. The same year, Radio Television Hong Kong broadcast a documentary of his life and work. He was the art director for Giorgetti from 2004 - 2006 and was the chairman of the jury for the St. Petersburg Design Biennale in 2009. His Tower House in Athens was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award in Architecture in 2009. At Foshan, Guangdong, in 2010, he organised and chaired an international design conference addressing the need for original design in China.

Raised in Hong Kong, Lo received his master's degree in architecture from Harvard University with the best thesis prize in 1988. He has taught at the Syracuse University, NY, and was a member of the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Serving as a visiting critic at different universities and a frequent speaker at design events, Lo has a multidisciplinary practice, integrating art, architecture, interior, furniture and object design for exclusive projects in Milan, Athens, London, Istanbul, Dubai, Taipei, Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
