Being the representative gallery for Yang Din in Hong Kong, we are pleased that the Museu do Oriente in Lisbon, Portugal will organise a solo exhibition for Yang Din titled “Yang Din, Journey through Painting” from 16 May to 25 August, 2019.
After previous exhibitions held in 1991, 1993 and 1994 at Casa Garden in Fundação Oriente’s Delegation in Macau, Museu do Oriente is showcasing to the public for the first time, approximately one hundred of the artist’s acrylic and mixed media pieces.
Painted until 2008 (when a serious accident led the artist into a coma and subsequently demanded absolute rest for four years) and, during and following his convalescence, each of these paintings replicates, endlessly yet always anew, what a dazzling experience Existence can be.
The motifs present in his paintings depict nature according to his personal view of it. Yang Din consistently composes naïve and sober, yet elegant and meditative compositions. His works express a sense of spirituality, gratitude, intuition, peace and serenity, which are characteristic of an Eastern philosophy in dialogue with a Western philosophical way of thinking.
Having begun to paint at age 14, Yang Din (b. 1958, Shantou) settled in France in 1980, where he graduated from École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1983, he was admitted into painter Pierre Mathei’s atelier. His art would also be influenced by Pierre Alechinsky’s work.
