"Xue Song: Phoenix Art from the Ashes" Solo Exhibition

18 May - 14 Jul 2019 | Long Museum West Bund

Being the representative gallery for Xue Song in Hong Kong, we are delighted that the Long Museum (West Bund) will organise a retrospective exhibition for Xue Song titled "Phoenix Art from the Ashes" from 18 May to 14 July, 2019.

Considered one of the most important exhibitions of Xue Song, it will present 80 works of his artistic creation spanning more than 30 years including his early works and recent developments.

Xue Song (b.1965, Anhui) is a contemporary artist renowned for his role as a principal contributor to Chinese "cultural pop" and an important representative of the "New Shanghai School Art".

In 1990, a fire destroyed all the original artworks in his studio. Thereafter, the artist elected to set to flames and char published pictures and texts. Through this process, he deconstructed, reconstructed and organized them on the canvas. Xue Song’s artistry gives rise to a new understanding, linking the East and the West, historical memory and the current reality, and traditional culture and modern views, which are foundational to his unique work.

His works are collected by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, University of Southern California Asia Pacific Museum, Bonn Museum of Modern Art, National Art Museum of China, Hong Kong M+ Art Museum, Bill Gates Art Foundation and other institutions.
