JU MING (1938, Taiwan) |

Ju Ming's versatility and sculptural skill has been well established throughout his decades of stunning artistic achievement. Yet still one is bedazzled by his ability to pare down form and movement, to capture the essence of extraordinarily transient elements within such unfogiving materials as stone, bronze, wood and stainless steel. Indeed, the materials themselves lend an eloquent facet to the aesthetic impact of each sculpture through the juxtapositions they create- the density and gravity of stone and bronze against the grace and controlled movements of Tai Chi, calmly reposing figures evolved from the capricious material of wood, the shine and play of light on the surface of a stationary, weighty stainless steel sculpture, underlying the electric energy simmering just below its hard surface. Ju Ming\'s dexterity in harnessing and mastering his materials combined with his seemingly effortless facility in abstracting a fugure and its movements, yet retaining its soul, is what makes him and his work one of the jewels of contemporary Asian Art.
