This systematic sequestration of both object and person reflects the emerging trend, apparent in contemporary Chinese society, towards smaller households in comparison to the complexities of traditional Chinese society. As a result, each individual is now accorded greater social and personal freedom. The miniature sizing of the people and objects among the purely coloured background contributes to the sense that Zeng Hao adopts a macroscopic perspective to evaluate the patterns of this rapidly evolving society.
