Born in Guangzhou in 1949, Szeto Lap moved to Paris in 1975 and has called it home ever since.
In 1981, he received the Italian painting award "Prix Lubiam", and the "Feneon Prize" from the Paris Academy in France in 1982. In the same year, his exhibition, "In Situ" was held at the National Museum of Modern Art at Georges Pompidou Center, showcasing twenty of his pieces.
In 2000, he received the Grand Prize of Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts Institute of France. Two years later, he co-operated with Xu Jing and other professors on the "Method of Teaching on the Basic of Drawings of Figurative Expressionists", also receiving the Education Achievement Prize from the Chinese Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China.
From September 2003 to March 2004, Szeto Lap's touring exhibitions were held in 5 National Museums in China, including the National Art Museum of China, Shanghai Art Museum, the China Academy of Art Musem, Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangdong, and the University Museum and Art Gallery, the University of Hong Kong. On June 29th, 2004, he was awarded the Chevalier de L Ondres des Art et Lettres given by the President of the French Republic, an award acknowledging Szeto for his artistic and cultural contribution to France.
