“No matter what attitude is held by Su Xin Ping towards the subjects in his paintings, be it respectful, critical or pitiful, there is always an underlying compassion in his works. At the same time, through revelation of the practical relationship between man and society, the works imply in a subtle manner a certain sense of suspense or even anxiety. In respect of the reflections on reality and on man in his paintings, it may be more aptly said that they are made from the perspective of fate, rather than from the perspective of morality. Certainly, that is not a fate that concerns merely a single Chinese individual, but rather all men who are afloat in this ‘floating world’.”
