PATRICK NAGGAR (Born 1954, France) |

The canvases of Patrick Naggar are like passages from the journeys he embarks upon through the unrecognizable, otherworldly landscapes of his mind. He rejects the portrayal definite forms or even known landscapes. Instead, through his juxtapositions of luminescent pigments against dark voids and muted tones he constructs out of nothingness a meditative sense of emptiness itself --- a sense of being nowhere yet everywhere at the same time. These feelings are propelled by the disturbing nostalgia inspired by each image; a mystery created by thick layering and texturing, by the ethereal light quality that both drenches the surface of the image and emanates from within its core. The fact that one experiences an impression of nostalgia, of recognition upon viewing his paintings suggests that Naggar has perhaps managed to touch on some hidden desires and truths of the human soul.
