Lu Hao graduated from the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting in Central Academy of Fines Arts, Bejing in 1992. He specialized in traditional Chinese painting, yet devoted himself to contemporary art. He is inspired by the delicacy and reticence of traditional Chinese painting, with themes that included architecture, daily life and politics. As a descendant of the Manchu (the race that ruled the Qing dynasty), Lu has been living in Beijing (the present capital and in Qing as well) since he was born. Due to his family roots; he has personal life experiences that have contributed to his special sentiments towards Beijing. Working with these very personal sentiments, as well as the cultural and geographical characteristics of Beijing, he has created a series of installation works as well as paintings. The themes of industrialization and the heritage of the old Beijing are inherent in Lu’s art, as are the sentiments that were so important to its inspiration. His works not only reflect the characteristics of the current culture, but also the sense of absurdity in modernizing society.
Since 2005, Lu started working on the series of “Vanishing Home”. These oil paintings are works of realism that pictured the scene of the Beijing old alley, which reflected his life experiences as well as the strong sentiments towards the disintegrating cultural heritage.
