Bernard Cathelin was born in 1919 in Paris. Beginning in 1945 he studied for three years at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs and in the studios of Henri Matisse and Maurice Brianchous. Cathelin's work has been wodely exhibited internationally and he has been featured in more than 50 exhibitions worldwide. Cathelin has also received numerous awards including the Blumenthal Prixe (1950), the Emily Loewe Prize (1953) and the Othon Friesz Prize (1958). He was also elected to the Legion d'Honneur in 1995 and inaugurated by the President of the French Republic at the time, Mr. Francois Mitterand who remarked, "You are a French artist representative of your epoch."
